Alloy 317L is molybdenum stabilized austenitic low carbon stainless steel alloy. It is having few alloys added like nickel, chromium, and molybdenum for assuring very good resistance to corrosion ability. It also resists chemical attacks for citric, sulfurous, tartaric, formic and acetic acids. Because of low carbon content in it, alloy 317L is providing sensitization resistance when it is welded and high creep and stress to rupture and high tensile strength at an elevated temperature. This grade in an annealed situation becomes non-magnetic but after welding, it becomes a little bit magnetic.

The increased level of alloys like nickel, molybdenum, and chromium assures in the enhancement of resistance ability to chloride pitting. Resistance ability increases as the content of molybdenum increases. At the temperature of 49 Degree C SS 317L become sulfuric acid concentration resistance. Few tests are conducted for checking the effects of various operating conditions that could affect the corrosion behavior.
